Should pornography be restricted by law?
Although this is a tough question for many. I feel pornography should not be restriced by law as it is protected as free speech. However, I am going to parse the question by saying that "access" to pornography should in some cases be restricted. For example I don't think children should be exposed to or have access to it. I don't think that adults who choose not to view it should be forced to. An example of this as argued before the Supreme Court is should someone be able to send you an ad in the mail with pornographic images? The courts ruled no and I agree. I think pornography other than involving children should be available to anyone adult who wishes to view it but should not be forced upon anyone who does not.

I'm a former employee of Shinders on Hennepin (R.I.P.), so I've peddled porn. It should be clear where I stand. However, I somewhat cock my eye to a system that says creating porn is legal (not distributing it, creating it), yet prostitution is illegal. Now, unless you "volunteer" to film the porn, you're clearly getting paid to have sex. I see no distinction between the two.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I'm sure you know where I stand on prostitution, as well. With one distinction, I've been known to, ahem, consume some porn. Those "actors" made their choices, and to be honest, I don't think I've ever paid for porn. (Paid by, yes. Paid for, no.) So I don't feel like I'm helping to generate a demand for their acting skills. On the other hand, I've been to several countries where prostitution is legal and readily available, and I could never bring myself to actually participate in the industry. I'm just not wired that way.
I lived in a country where prostitution was legal and I can tell you it was pathetic and heart breaking to see these women. They didn’t want to be prostitutes they did it because they had to buy milk for their babies. No one wants to grow up to be a 5-dollar prostitute also around the town there were signs stating that purchasing a girl under the age of 18 was illegal. Which mean there is a problem with underage girls in the industry. Sad and heartbreaking. I don’t think porn should be illegal per se but I do think that it should not be so widely available to our kids. I don’t think anyone should be exposed with out his or her consent and I defiantly think that rape scenes violence and under age portrayal should be banned. I am not really a porn kind of guy.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought.
